Vintage Chinese CJ 750 750cc w/Sidecar?
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with one of these? Knowing the Chinese reputation, I am suspicious of them. These seem ideal for a quick bugout vehicle, but who knows? Not sure about shipping/tarriffs and such, tho.

Seem to range from $3k to $5k normally, of course more customization would drive the price up. I just wonder if anyone has experience with one and their quality? |
Re: Vintage Chinese CJ 750 750cc w/Sidecar?
I have a Ural which is the bike the Russians copied from the Germans. The CJ is the bike the Chinese copied from the Russians. So yes I sort of have one. I've been riding a Motorcycle almost daily for the last 40+ years. I've ridden Trikes and two wheelers. This is the first sidecar I've ever ridden. It is not for the faint of heart. It handles nothing like a motorcycle OR a trike. If you take left hand turns too fast the drive wheel comes up and over you go with the bike on top of you. If you take right hand turns too fast the sidecar wheel comes up and over you go, but the bike doesn't really land on you this time. Now for the fun part...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
It is a third world tough rig. Urals are everywhere in the world and in hard use daily. They are used for everything from hauling people to freight. I think they handle better on dirt and gravel roads than pavement. Mine is a one wheel drive but a two wheel drive (sidecar wheel also drives) version is available. Im told that if you can go there on a 4-wheeler you can get there on a Ural. IMHO it might make a great one or two man bugout vehicle. Plenty of room for supplies, enough power to handle a trip and tough as nails. Not too fast though, it cruises comfortably at 45mph. much faster and it seems to be working too hard. BTW I'd stay away from the Chinese version and go with the Russian, the Ural has been proven since 1937. The CJ not so long. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...37879/Ural.jpg Here's a youtube video of the military Ural |

This is the ultimate bug out bike IMO. M1030-M1 diesel dirtbike. Don't know if it's military issue only though.
